Elina K. Karamatziani holds a PhD in Philosophy from the Department of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Her doctoral thesis focused on Deontological, Utilitarian, and Theological Discussion on Organ Donation. She also holds a Master's degree in Theory and Practice of Teaching and Evaluation and is a qualified Philologist. She is a permanent secondary education teacher and, since September 2020, has been seconded to the Department of Philosophy at NKUA, where she teaches. She also serves as Head of Human Resources at the Applied Philosophy Research Laboratory. In recent years, she has coordinated the International World Bioethics Day Conferences organized by the Greek Unit of the International Chair in Bioethics (WMA Collaboration Center). She also coordinates educational activities of the Applied Philosophy Research Laboratory aimed at informing secondary education students about bioethical issues. She serves as General Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Association of Teachers and Intellectuals for the Promotion of Philosophy in Education (EKDEF). Dr. Karamatziani has presented papers at national and international conferences, and her research has been published in peer-reviewed academic journals, edited volumes, and conference proceedings.She has also served as a researcher in the Mental Health Program for Vulnerable Populations at the 1st Department of Psychiatry of Eginition Hospital, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School. She was the head of the pedagogical team for European eTwinning and Erasmus projects at the 4th General Lyceum of Galatsi. These projects received both the eTwinning Quality Label and the European Quality Label, and she also coordinated international school partnership initiatives. Her research interests include metaethics, normative ethical theories—particularly Utilitarianism, Kantian Deontology, and Aristotelian Virtue Ethics—Platonic Metaphysics, as well as Applied Ethics and Environmental Ethics.
