Panagiotis Kormas is an orthopaedic surgeon and holds a PhD in Philosophy. His doctoral research explored the relationship between Stoic and Epicurean thought and cognitive neuroscience, while his completed postdoctoral research focused on consciousness, decision-making mechanisms, and free will, examining the interplay between unconscious and neural processes and conscious experience. His research interests include consciousness, neuroethics, decision-making, free will, moral responsibility, and artificial intelligence. He is a member of the Laboratory of Biopolitics at Panteion University and serves on the Medical Council of the Bioinformatics and Human Electrophysiology Lab at Ionian University. He teaches in postgraduate programmes at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Open University of Cyprus, René Descartes College, and Democritus University of Thrace. His teaching areas include theoretical ethics, bioethics and medical ethics, philosophy and neuroscience, health policy and healthcare systems organisation, and business ethics. He is the author of a book and a number of scholarly publications and has participated in interdisciplinary research projects. He also has extensive institutional experience in the healthcare sector, having served as a member of the Plenary Council of the Central Health Council of Greece and as Vice President of the Hellenic National Center of Emergency Care (EKAB).
